Morning Dance (revised 2016)

Morning Dance captures the capacity both for vigor and for calm in carillon music. It is written as a ternary form, with fast sections flanking a slow middle section. The opening pentatonic motive progresses through several permutations, including an inversion in augmentation and a fragmentation that progresses sequentially. The slow middle section treats the same melodic material more freely. The return of the opening section, in modified form, builds in intensity through more sequences before ending climactically on the opening pitch of the piece.
