Lincoln Doubles

Composer Notes... The title is a play on words. “Doubles” was the name given by English 16th century composers like William Byrd to a set of variations. It was also the name of a method of ringing changes on five bells in English change-ringing. Here the variations are on a tune called “Lincoln” probably used for a metrical Psalm setting. Composed in May 1989, for John Gouwens.
