From the “cuckoo” calls in the Prelude, the languor of the Adagio (Romance) and the hunting calls of Fanfares, the listener might guess that the cycle of movements also corresponds to the four seasons. If the performer wishes, “Spring”, “Summer”, “Fall” and “Winter” may be used as subtitles or even replace the given names of the movements.
