Springfield Polyphonies

Composer Notes... A Suite of three movements in Baroque style commissioned by Karel Keldermans and dedicated to Karel and Linda Keldermans in 2003. The three distinct movements are:

1. Intrada-Toccata. Upward aspiring lines contrast with Baroque violin figuration. There is a cadence which will recur in the final movement.
2. Passacaglia. The composer regards the Passacaglia/Chaconne as the ideal music for a carillon since it consists of variations over a slow moving bass line. The larger bells thus having time to sound.
3. Fuga-Finale. Again, as in the fugue in Springfield Counterpoints, the texture is thin to suite the bell resonances. Violin figuration and cadences from the first movement reappear.
