Longwood Suite

Composer Notes... This four movement suite was composed for Lisa Lonie to play at Longwood Gardens, Kennet Square, Pennsylvania. The Suite is all about the wonderful fountains of Longwood, formerly the home of Pierre S. du Pont, manufacturing mogul. The movements of the Suite are:

• Fountains of Splendour Liquid figuration, but with a very expansive melody.
• Ice Cold By Starlight cool octatonic runs give rise to a toccata like theme.
• Waltzing to Waterdrops A calm Viennese Waltz with a more robust middle section. The waltz theme is given a different setting on each of its four appearances.
• Frolicsome Fountains Light-hearted with a ‘jazzy’ feel to it, this sparkles along. The more robust Waltz theme returns before the end until frivolity takes over.
